About the Role

Operating in a key leadership role for Turaco, the Head of Business Development will report directly to the CEO and will be responsible for driving key business development (BD) activities and across all Turaco Markets, leading to customer and revenue growth. They will help shape and execute on the overall business development strategy, from identifying potential sales channels and partners, developing relationships, finding products/partner/market fit, and driving the end-to-end partnership process. The Head of Business Development will be instrumental in Turaco’s growth beyond 1M+ end-users across Africa in the coming months.

Key Roles & Responsibilities

  • Develop partnership strategy & pipeline: in collaboration with the country GMs and CEO, identify opportunities to build off of existing sales channels as well as capture new market opportunities; develop the partnership pipelines for each country, and ensure BD opportunities are appropriately prioritized and resourced.
  • Lead priority business development efforts: take the lead role in pursuing priority BD efforts with major partners, which includes drafting and presenting pitch decks, and moving new partnerships through the BD process from pitch to contract signature.
  • Ultimately responsible for driving growth in revenue and customer numbers (in conjunction with GMs).
  • Represent Turaco at industry events: build Turaco’s industry brand and generate new business leads at industry events and other key high-value BD opportunities.
  • Manage and develop staff: provide mentorship and dotted-line management to business development staff in each country office.
  • Develop & maintain BD & partnership toolkit: help build and iterate on the tools and processes utilized in the business development workflow.
  • Culture: contribute to a Turaco culture where everyone sees themselves as a brand ambassador, with the opportunity to create new business development opportunities in their day-to-day work.

Key Qualifications & Your Profile

  • Live Turaco’s values – care and protect, do the right thing, and have fun!
  • 5+ years of professional experience in a similar function, with experience in a leadership or management role.
  • Start-up or entrepreneurial experience is a plus.
  • Track record of identifying and closing large BD/sales opportunities with major partners
  • Outstanding communication and interpersonal skills, with both internal and external stakeholders
  • Persistent and tireless when pursuing BD opportunities
  • Strong ability to create professional external-facing materials (pitch decks, etc.)
  • Innovative and strategic in approach to BD and partnership opportunities. At the same time, willing to roll up one’s sleeves and dig into details to solve problems.
  • Demonstrated high EQ and ability to develop and motivate colleagues
  • Humble, collaborative team player
  • Ability to navigate ambiguity, juggle multiple tasks, think independently, demonstrate sound judgment, and problem solve
  • Bachelor/Undergraduate degree with excellent grades
